Outdoor Track and Field Weekly Honors Announced

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – VMI’s Avery Martin has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week while Furman’s Allie Buchalski has been named the Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week. The selections are made by the league’s track and field coaches.

Martin won the 1,500-meter race at the Fred Hardy Invitational last weekend with a time of 3:50.00. The junior’s time ranks fourth in the SoCon, 22nd on the NCAA East list and was an IC4A qualifying time.

Buchalski finished second in the steeplechase at the Raleigh Relays last weekend with a school-record time of 10:18.61. The time currently ranks first in the NCAA this season and topped the previous school record by over 30 seconds.

The coaches did not recognize any field athletes this week.
