SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina pitcher Taylor Sigmon has been named the General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday.
Sigmon compiled a 2-1 record while allowing just three earned runs over 10.1 innings of relief in three games for the Catamounts last week. The junior scattered 18 hits while racking up 22 strikeouts against just three walks.
Sigmon tossed 3.2 shutout innings against Charlotte on Wednesday, as the Catamounts went on to claim the 4-3 victory. She followed with another strong performance on Saturday against Mercer, pitching 5.2 innings and allowing two runs on five hits with 15 strikeouts for her second win of the season.
The native of Catawba, N.C. holds a near perfect 3.97 grade point average as a communication science disorders major.
