WCU?s Mitchell Named SoCon Women's Golfer of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina junior Kim Mitchell has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from March 25-31. The selection is made by the league office.

Mitchell tied for seventh at the John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate in Stockbridge, Ga., helping the Catamounts to a third-place finish in the 15-team field. The Woodbridge, Va., native shot a 7-over-par 223 over the course of the three-day, 83-competitor tournament, countering a 5-over 77 in Sunday’s first round with consecutive rounds of 1-over 73. Her Tuesday score was one of just nine of 73 or better on the final day of the tournament and helped WCU jump three spots in the team standings.

The top-10 finish was Mitchell’s first of the season and second of her WCU career. Her 223 matched her career-best 54-hole score at Western Carolina.

The Catamounts’ team finish was their second top-five of the 2014-15 season and fifth top-10.

Western Carolina is back in action at the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate in Morganton, N.C., on April 5-6.
