Day Three
BOSTON, Mass. - Renee Reives finished fifth in the ECAC shot put, leading the VMI track and field programs on the final day of the IC4A/ECAC Championships, contested Sunday at Boston University in Boston, Mass.
Reives grabbed her second consecutive top-five finish at the ECAC meet with a 13.45 meter effort (44'1 1/2") on her fifth of six throws. She edged the sixth and seventh-place competitors by less than four inches.
The Keydets finished 38th in the team standings at the ECAC meet, and also scored on the IC4A side Sunday, as Avery Martin finished eighth in the mile by clocking in at 4:12.70. That, combined with Quincy Murphy's eighth-place finish in the heptathlon, gave the Keydets a 41st-place team finish.
Finally, Jordan White wrapped up his breakthrough indoor season with a 15.55 meter (51'0 1/4") toss in the IC4A shot put.
VMI track and field will open its outdoor season March 27 at the Fred Hardy Invite in Richmond.
Day Two
BOSTON, Mass. - Quincy Murphy finished eighth in the heptathlon, while Avery Martin staked his claim as a title contender in the mile and Yaa Agyepong-Wiafe set another school record in the 60-meter hurdles at day two of the IC4A/ECAC Championships, contested Saturday at Boston University in Boston, Mass.
Murphy finished with 4,893 points in the multi event but was cost by the pole vault, where his clearance of 3.55 meters (11'7 3/4") was tied for the lowest among all competitors. He did post a solid 8.50 time in the 60-meter hurdles and a 2:51.11 in the 1000-meter run to account for his final total.
In the mile, Martin qualified second to Sunday's final with a personal best time of 4:08.40, good enough to win his heat.
Other IC4A results came in the 200-meters, where Aron Long was 23rd (22.18) and Julian Jackson finished 30th (22.41).
On the women's side, Agyepong-Wiafe was the lone VMI competitor of the day and she set a school record in the 60-meter hurdles for the second consecutive meet, running a 8.81 time in the preliminary round. That advanced her to the semifinals, where she was eliminated and wound up 16th.
VMI track and field returns to action and wraps up its indoor season Sunday, as the Keydets finish this year's IC4A/ECAC Championships in Boston. Action gets underway at 9:30 a.m.
Day One
BOSTON, Mass. - VMI's Quincy Murphy sits fifth after day one of the IC4A heptathlon, contested Friday at Boston University in Boston, Mass.
Murphy, who finished the day with 2,783 points, posted one of the top six marks in each of the first day's events save one, the long jump, where he was seventh. He started his day with a 7.29 clocking in the 60-meter dash, jumped 6.43 meters (21'1 1/4") in the long jump, threw the shot 12.28 meters (40'3 1/2") and cleared 1.88 meters (6'2") in the high jump.
Mike DiMambro of Rhode Island is the leader with 3,008 points, and the top five competitors are within 225 points heading into day two.
The IC4A/ECAC Championships resume Saturday at 9:45 a.m.
