Samford?s Gray Named SoCon Golfer of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford senior Bailey Gray has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from Feb. 25 to March 3. The selection is made by the league office.

Gray tied for sixth place out of 210 competitors this week at the 2015 Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Spring Classic in Hilton Head Island, S.C. The Trussville, Ala., native finished the tournament with a 54-hole mark of 217 (69-73-75). Gray opened with a 3-under-par 69 on Sunday, tying her best round of the season and putting her in second place after day one of the massive, 40-team tournament, which included four other SoCon teams.

She followed that up with 73 to remain in second after day two before putting up a 75 for her final mark on Tuesday. Her sixth-place finish was her best of the 2014-15 season so far.

Gray helped the Bulldogs to a fifth-place team finish.

Also nominated: Kellie Anderson (The Citadel), Sammie Buchanan (UNCG), Agathe Sauzon (Chattanooga) and Olivia Landino (Western Carolina).
