SPARTANBURG, S.C. – High Point attacker Jamie Piluso and goalie Zach Tuell have been named the Southern Conference Men’s Lacrosse Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, for games of March 24-28, the league office announced on Tuesday. The selections are made by the conference office.
Piluso was dominant in the face-off circle on Saturday against Furman, winning 11-of-14 face-offs for a .786 winning percentage. The junior added a goal and six ground balls to led the Panthers to a 10-3 victory and their first SoCon win of the season.
Piluso currently ranks second in the SoCon in face-off percentage at .592 while leading the league in ground balls at 7.10 per game. The native of Ridgewood, N.J. receives his first weekly honor in the inaugural season of SoCon lacrosse.
Tuell was the key to the High Point victory on Saturday, recording 16 saves while allowing just two goals for a save percentage of .889 in 56:26 played in goal. The freshman also added a ground ball in his second career start between the pipes.
Tuell combined with teammate Russ Bartle to allow just three goals for the entire game, the fewest allowed in a single game in High Point history. The native of Gainesville, Va. earns his first weekly honor of the season.
