UNCG 20th at Mountainview Collegiate Invitational

TUCSON, Ariz. – The UNCG women’s golf team returned to the course Friday and posted a solid 36 holes of golf at the 2015 MountainView Collegiate Invitational hosted by the University of Missouri at the 6,227-yard MountainView Golf Club.

The Spartans will play the third and final round Saturday with an 8 a.m. (MDT) shotgun start from holes Nos. 16-18 with live scoring at www.birdiefire.com.

Junior Sammie Buchanan leads the Spartans in a tie for 45th place overall with a 5-over-par 148. Buchanan opened with a 1-over-par 73 in round one before following up with a 3-over-par 75 in round two.

Her play helped the Spartans finish in 20th place overall with a 608 score after posting rounds of 303 and 305. The first two round scores continue the Spartans’ trend with four straight team rounds under 310 and mark the second- and third-lowest rounds of the year, trailing a 302 score set at their home tournament at the Forest Oaks Fall Classic.

Junior Jessica Madsen had her best 36-hole day of the year as she is tied for 68th overall. Madsen carded an 8-over-par 152 Friday with a 5-over-par 77 in round one and a 3-over-par 75 in round two. Sophomore Kristin Powers tallied a 10-over-par 154 to sit in a tie for 83rd overall with a 75 and 79 score.

Sophomore Emily Kurey added an 11-over-par 155 as she was consistent with a 78 in round one and a 77 in round two. Senior Berglind Bjornsdottir rounded out the lineup with a 13-over-par 157 with scores of 79 and 78.

Florida International holds the team lead with a 6-under-par 570 (288-282) while Ohio State and Texas State are tied for second at 5-under-par 571. Chonlada Chayanon of Iowa State holds the individual lead with a 7-under-par 137 (67-70), holding a one-stroke lead over three individuals tied for second.
