Western Carolina moves series vs. Valpo up one day
CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Unfavorable weekly weather forecasts have prompted more changes to Western Carolina's baseball schedule. The Catamounts will host Valparaiso for two nonconference games as originally scheduled this week but advance the time frame one day.
WCU will now first host the Crusaders at 7 p.m. on Monday and again on Tuesday at 4 p.m. on campus at Childress Field / Hennon Stadium.
Western Carolina (3-3) has lost five games to date due to weather, including two games against UNC Asheville and the three-game series against Youngstown State. The Catamounts and UNCA will play twice in early May to make up the missed home-and-home, while the Youngstown State series will not be made up.
The Catamounts last played on Sunday, Feb. 22 – a 14-5 victory over George Mason in the finale of the Hughes Bros. Challenge hosted by UNCW.
Valparaiso (0-6) comes to Cullowhee looking for its first victory of the season. The Crusaders dropped three at San Diego State to open the season before falling in three straight this past weekend at Gardner-Webb, suffering two 5-1 losses and an 8-7 defeat on Sunday. Valpo also had two games canceled due to weather at Belmont in Nashville, Tenn.
UNCG vs. Wake Forest moved to Wednesday in Winston-Salem
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG baseball team’s nonconference home game against Wake Forest, scheduled for Tuesday at 4 p.m., has been moved to Wednesday and will now be played in Winston-Salem at the Wake Forest Baseball Park due to unplayable field conditions at the UNCG Baseball Stadium. First pitch is now slated for 6 p.m.
The Spartans have now lost a total of 10 home games in the first three weeks of the season thanks to the combination of snow, ice and rain that has plagued the Triad this winter.
Furman adds game vs. Winthrop
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Furman baseball has announced the addition of an April 6 home game against Winthrop at Latham Stadium, with first pitch set for 5 p.m.
The addition was made after the Paladins’ March 1 contest at Campbell was canceled due to rain.
Furman plays at Georgia on Tuesday in a 5 p.m. game that will be broadcast on the SEC Network+.
