ETSU?s York, Wofford?s Scott Earn Weekly SoCon Honors

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU second baseman Trey York and Wofford left-hander Adam Scott have been named the Southern Conference player and pitcher of the week, respectively, for all games Feb. 23 to March 1. The selections are made by the league office.

York earned his second weekly honor of the season after hitting .455 with six RBIs and three extra-base hits to help the Bucs to a series win over Butler over the weekend. With hits in all three of ETSU’s games, York extended his hitting streak to eight games.

The junior from Knoxville, Tenn., opened his weekend by going 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, a walk, a stolen base and two RBIs in ETSU’s 4-1 win in game one of Saturday’s doubleheader. After following that up with a hit and a run scored in game two of the doubleheader, which Butler won 9-3, York went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and four RBIs in the rubber game Sunday, leading the Bucs to the 12-6 win. York also scored twice and stole a base in addition to matching his career high in RBIs.

ETSU (6-2) hosts Radford on Tuesday before a Wednesday game at UNC Asheville. The Bucs return home to host West Virginia for a three-game set over the weekend.

Also nominated: Connor Walsh (The Citadel), Danny Edgeworth (Mercer), Heath Quinn (Samford) and James Plaisted (Wofford).

Making only his third career start, Terrier freshman Scott hurled a complete-game shutout over Harvard on Sunday, limiting the Crimson to just three hits and two walks on 105 pitches. The Canandaigua, N.Y., native struck out four and faced the minimum four times. Scott allowed just one base-runner to reach third in the contest, when an error and a single put runners at second and third with one out in the second inning. He worked out of his lone jam with a strikeout and a lineout to preserve the shutout.

The complete-game shutout was the first for a Wofford pitcher since Brandon Yarusi blanked Furman 5-0 on April 14, 2013.

Wofford (9-3) hosts Presbyterian on Wednesday before beginning a three-game weekend series with Gardner-Webb. The Terriers will host Friday’s and Sunday’s games, while GWU will host Saturday’s contest.

Also nominated: JP Sears (The Citadel), Jimmy Nesselt (ETSU) and Dimitri Kourtis (Mercer).
