SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford’s Adam Jones has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week and teammate Keyth Fightmaster has named the Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week. Samford’s Sarah Sanford has been named the Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week with teammate Tiana Pisoni taking the Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week. The selections are made by the league’s track and field coaches.
Jones ran a 4:10.88 in the mile run in his first race of the season to win the Battle of I-65 challenge. The junior missed all of indoor season.
Fightmaster recorded a mark of 2.15m in the high jump to take first in the event at the Battle of the I-65 challenge. The mark is currently the best outdoor mark in the NCAA and is a facility and I-65 event record.
Sanford won the Battle of I-65 challenge with a personal-best time of 1:01.8 in the 400-meter hurdles. The freshman was also the runner-up in the 100-meter hurdles with a new personal-best time of 13.95.
Pisoni won the long jump with a personal-best mark of 5.71m at the Battle of I-65 challenge. The freshman also finished third in the triple jump with a mark of 11.70m.
