Furman?s Totland Named SoCon Golfer of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman sophomore Taylor Totland has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from March 11-17. The selection is made by the league office.

Totland tied for second in the 74-golfer field at the 3M Jaguar Intercollegiate over the weekend, shooting a 3-under 210 (70.0 stroke average) on the par-71 Forest Hills Golf Course. Totland opened with a 2-over 73 Friday before posting a 3-under 68 Saturday to move up four spots in the standings into a tie for third. The Tinton Falls, N.J., native moved up one more spot Sunday with her 2-under 69 to finish one stroke out of first place.

The top-five finish was Totland’s fifth of 2014-15 and second in three spring outings. The weekly award is Totland’s second of the season, as she also took the honor on Feb. 18 after tying for first at the Florida State Match-Up in her first spring tournament.

As a team, the 21st-ranked Paladins tied for second in the 13-team 3M Jaguar Intercollegiate field, behind only No. 43 Coastal Carolina. Furman finished five strokes ahead of No. 40 GRU Augusta. Fellow SoCon schools ETSU, Mercer, UNCG and Chattanooga were also in the field.

Furman wraps up regular-season play at the Rebel Intercollegiate in Oxford, Miss., on April 3-5.

Also nominated: Eraina Manor (The Citadel), Rachel Pollock (ETSU) and Agathe Sauzon (Chattanooga).
