SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman sophomore Ansley Speaks has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played March 9-15. Speaks won all three of her singles matches last week at the top position. Furman fell to North Florida (5-2) and UCF (4-3) before topping South Florida (4-3) last week.

Speaks won all three singles matches in straight sets as she began the week with a 6-1, 7-6 victory over UNF’s Taylor Hollander. The Simpsonville, S.C., native then topped UCF’s Caroline Eberhart, 6-0, 7-5. Speaks’ final singles victory of the week was a 6-4, 6-4 decision over Olaya Garrido-Rivas of USF.

Paired with Alex Moreno-Kaste at No. 1 doubles, Speaks dropped a 6-4 match to Garrido-Rivas and Jessica Cortes Chaves of USF.

The Paladins return to action Saturday (March 21) when Furman travels to face Charlotte at 12 p.m.

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included ETSU’s Lynn Yee Choo, Samford’s Yasmeen Ebada, Chattanooga’s Kelsey Coots and Western Carolina’s Megan McLinden.
