Totland, Furman finish second at 3M Jaguar Intercollegiate
AUGUSTA, Ga. – Sophomore Taylor Totland (-3) fired a 2-under 69 on Sunday to lead the 21st-ranked Furman women’s golf team to a tie for second place at the 3M Jaguar Intercollegiate at the par-71, 6,085-yard Forest Hills Golf Club. Totland tied for second, as well, finishing with a 3-under 210.
No. 43 Coastal Carolina (+15) won the tournament with a three-day total of 298-281-288=867, while the Paladins (+21) tied with Kennesaw State (+21) for second place. No. 40 GRU Augusta (+26) was fourth, while Troy (+34) finished fifth.
Paladin freshman Alice Chen (+1) tied for fifth, scoring a 74 in the final round after notching two birdies on the front and an additional birdie on No. 17, while senior Laura DeMarco (+10) tied for 15th after carding a 72 with two birdies on Sunday.
Freshman Reona Hirai (+13) birdied No. 6 to score a 76 on Sunday to tie for 28th, while rookie Jacqueline Bendrick, who played as an individual, tied for 32nd after birdieing No. 18 to score a 76 in the final round. Junior Valentina Romero withdrew from Sunday’s play due to illness.
Furman will compete at the M&F Bank Rebel Intercollegiate in Oxford, Miss., April 3-5.
Chattanooga finishes sixth at 3M Jaguar Intercollegiate
AUGUSTA, Ga. – Chattanooga senior Agathe Sauzon shot an even-par 71 to finish tied for 10th at 5-over (218) in the 3M Jaguar Intercollegiate. Her play led the Mocs to a sixth-place ending with a total of 896, their second-best 54-hole total of the season.
The Mocs had a final-round 300. Sauzon’s 71 combined with a 75 from Cris Perez, 76 by Megan Woods and 78 from Emily McLennan. McLennan’s 224 was good for a tie for 18th overall. Sarah Dolmovich had the drop score, turning in an 81.
Sauzon’s 218 is a season-best total for a Moc, just ahead of the 219 she and McLennan scored in the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Spring Classic to open the month. It’s the best 54-hole score in nearly a year, since Jordan Britt’s 212 (-4) at the 2014 Web.com Intercollegiate. Sauzon has a 72.83 stroke average through six spring rounds.
The Mocs next head to Johns Island outside of Charleston, S.C., for the Briar’s Creek Invitational. The tourney is March 23-24 at the Golf Club at Briar’s Creek.
ETSU finishes ninth at 3M Jaguar Intercollegiate
AUGUSTA, Ga. – Posting its lowest round of the tournament, the ETSU women’s golf team took away a huge confidence boost following third- and final-round play Sunday in the 3M Jaguar Intercollegiate at the Forest Hills Golf Club.
With a team score of 296 and having all five players shoot rounds of 75 or lower, the Buccaneers moved up a spot to finish the tournament in ninth place. Individually, sophomore Rachel Pollock posted a team-best score of 1-over-par 72 to join junior Vivienne Chin as the top ETSU individuals in the tournament, as both finished tied for 23rd.
Other ETSU results included a 3-over 74 by freshman Allyson Dunn, while fellow freshman Dominika Czudkova and sophomore Linda Dobele both posted 4-over 75s. For the tournament, Czudkova placed tied for 32nd, while both Dunn and Dobele both tied for 49th.
The Bucs will return to action on Monday, March 23, in the Briar’s Creek Invitational in John’s Island, S.C.
UNCG finishes 12th at 3M Jaguar Intercollegiate
AUGUSTA, Ga. – The UNCG women’s golf team carded its best round of the weekend and its third-lowest round of the year Sunday with a 307 score to help the Spartans finish 12th overall at the 3M Jaguar Invitational at the Forest Hills Golf Club.
The Spartans return to action later this week as they travel to Tucson, Ariz., for the Mountain View Collegiate on March 20-21.
The Spartans’ 307 score is tied for the third lowest team round of the 2014-15 season, trailing their scores at their home tournament the Forest Oaks Fall Classic (302 & 306). The Spartans moved up to 12th place overall with a three-day, 54-hole score of 939 (323-309-307), improving their round each day.
Junior Sammie Buchanan made the largest jump up the leaderboard Sunday, improving 22 spots into a tie for 35th overall with a 17-over-par 230 score. Buchanan carded her lowest round of the year with an even-par 71 Sunday as she posted 14 pars, two bogeys and birdies on holes Nos. 6 and 8. With her final-round score of 71, she improved her round each day after opening with an 83 in round one and a 76 in round two.
Sophomore Kristin Powers continued her strong play as she also finished tied for 35th overall, moving up nine spots on the final day. Powers finished with a 17-over-par 230 (79-76-75) as she also improved each round, culminating with her final round of 4-over-par 75 when she birdied two holes (Nos. 4 & 17).
Senior Berglind Bjornsdottir finished in a tie for 55th overall with a 24-over-par 237. Bjornsdottir opened the event with her best score of 76 Friday before posting rounds of 80 and 81 in the following days. Sophomore Maddie MacClurg, playing as an individual, finished 63rd overall with a 30-over-par 243 (82-82-79) as she finished with her best round Sunday.
Senior Andrea Rangel added a 70th-place finish with a 248 (90-77-81) while sophomore Emily Kurey placed in a tie for 71st with a 250 (85-85-80).
Mercer finishes 13th at 3M Jaguar Intercollegiate
AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Mercer women's golf team wrapped up its showing at the 3M Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate with a final-round 317 on Sunday. The Bears took 13th place in the event after posting scores of 321 and 305 on Friday and Saturday.
Mercer's tournament total of 943 was four strokes behind UNCG for 12th place. Coastal Carolina won the event at 867, while Kennesaw State and Furman tied for second at 873.
Freshman Jaelyn Tindal took home Mercer's top finish, tying for 43rd with a 56-hole score of 231. Tindal shot 78 on Sunday after carding 78 on Friday and 75 on Saturday.
Senior Sarah Louie Brown carded an 81 on Sunday and tied for 52nd at 235. Brown opened the event with a 78 and posted a second-round 76. Sophomore Marin Hanna also shot 81 on Sunday and finished 55th. Hanna's three-round total of 237 also featured scores of 80 and 76.
Freshman Hannah Mae Deems posted Mercer's low round on Sunday with a 6-over 77. The 77 came on the heels of a 91 and a 78 to leave her tied for 67th. Freshman Brett Beavers used 84 strokes on Sunday and closed the event in 69th place at 247.
The Bears return to action hosting the EAT A PEACH Collegiate on Sunday, March 29. The two-day event is set to be held at Idle Hour Country Club in Macon, Ga.
