Chen, Furman second at 3M Jaguar Intercollegiate

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Freshman Alice Chen (-2) and sophomore Taylor Totland (-1) each fired a 68 on Saturday to lead the 21st-ranked Furman women’s golf team in the second round of the 3M Jaguar Intercollegiate at the par-71, 6,085-yard Forest Hills Golf Club.

After two rounds of competition, the Paladins (+14) are in second place, just three strokes back of No. 43 Coastal Carolina (+11), which led the field with a 281 on Saturday. Kennesaw State (+16) is third, while Troy (+20) is fourth and No. 40 GRU Augusta (+21) rounds out the top five.

Chen, a native of Princeton, N.J, sits alone in second place after scoring a team-best five birdies on Saturday to finish the round three strokes behind Malene Krolboll Hanses of Coastal Carolina, who fired a 65 in the second round to move atop the leader board.

Totland birdied No. 8 then recorded three birdies on the back to tie for third heading into the final round, while rookie Reona Hirai (+8) carded back-to-back birdies on No. 4 and No. 5 then birdied No. 17 to finish the round tied for 20th after scoring a second-round 74.

Senior Laura DeMarco (+9) eagled the par-5 No. 9 and also carded a 74, tying for 26th, while junior Valentina Romero (+13) scored birdies on No. 12 and No. 18 to tie for 44th after also notching a 74 in the second round. Freshman Jacqueline Bendrick, who is playing as an individual, carded two birdies on the front and one on the back enter the final round in 31st place recording a second-round 75.

The final round of the 54-hole tournament begins with a shotgun start Sunday at 9 a.m. The Paladins will tee off of holes No. 1 through 4.

 

Chattanooga sixth at 3M Jaguar Intercollegiate

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Chattanooga shot 294 (+10), its third-best round of the season, Saturday at the 3M Jaguar Intercollegiate. Agathe Sauzon and Megan Woods each carded 1-over 72s, one ahead of Emily McLennan at +1.

McLennan’s 146 (+2) is in 10th place. Sauzon is a shot back tied for 11th at 5-over. Woods shot up into a tie for 39th at 154. She’s tied with Sarah Dolmovich, who had Saturday’s drop score of 78. Cris Perez rounded out the team score with a 77. She’s tied for 44th at 155.

Forest Hills Golf Club gave up 10 birdies to the Mocs Saturday after just four in round one. It was open to scoring across the board as the average score dropped 14 shots. The first-round stroke average was 308.1, while round two descended to 294.1 among the 13 competitors.

Sunday’s final 18 is a 9 a.m. shotgun start. The Mocs tee off holes 5-8 paired with Troy and host GRU Augusta.

 

ETSU 10th at 3M Jaguar Intercollegiate

AUGUSTA, Ga. – With all five players in its lineup posting scores in the 70s, the ETSU women’s golf team improved on its first-round result by 14 strokes, finishing second-round play in 10th place Saturday in the 3M Jaguar Intercollegiate at the Forest Hills Golf Club.

Redshirt freshman Dominika Czudkova carded a team-best round of 1-over-par 72 to lead the Buccaneers, while junior Vivienne Chin currently holds the team’s best position on the individual leaderboard with a tie for 20th after posting a 2-over 73 on Saturday. Czudkova and sophomore Rachel Pollock are both currently tied for 32nd.

Other ETSU results include a tie for 57th by sophomore Linda Dobele and a tied for 62nd by freshman Allyson Dunn.

The Bucs will continue with third- and final-round play on Sunday.

 

Mercer 12th at 3M Jaguar Intercollegiate

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Freshman Jaelyn Tindal carded a 4-over 75 to lead the Mercer women's golf team in Saturday's second round of the 3M Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate at Forest Hills Golf Club.

Mercer's second-round 305 was 16 strokes better than Friday's opening-round score and positions the Bears 12th with 18 holes to play. The squad enters Sunday's final round just two strokes behind Marshall for 11th place.

Tindal's 75 followed a Friday 78 and has her tied for 32nd place individually. Senior Sarah Louie Brown shaved two strokes off her Friday total, shooting 76 to position her tied for 39th.

Sophomore Marin Hanna signed for a 76 on Saturday and is tied for 51st after shooting 80 on Friday. Freshmen Brett Beavers and Hannah Mae Deems both shot 78 Saturday and are 66th and 72nd, respectively.

The final round of the 3M Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate is slated for a 9 a.m. start on Sunday.

 

UNCG 13th at 3M Jaguar Intercollegiate

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The UNCG women’s golf team played through soggy conditions in round two of the 3M Jaguar Invitational on Saturday afternoon at the Forest Hills Golf Club. The Spartans sit in 13th place overall with a team score of 632 as they improved 14 strokes from round one to round two (323-309).

Sophomore Kristin Powers leads the way for UNCG as she is tied for 44th overall with a 13-over-par 155. Powers opened the par-71 course Friday with an 8-over-par 79 before posting the Spartans’ top score in round two with a 5-over-par 76 as she carded 14 par scores.

Senior Berglind Bjornsdottir, the Spartans’ leader after round one, sits in a tie for 51st place overall. Bjornsdottir is 14-over-par 156 through 36 holes after posting a 76 in round one and a 9-over-par 80 in round two.

Junior Sammie Buchanan moved up seven spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 57th place overall Saturday. Buchanan has a two-round score of 17-over-par 159 as she rebounded from a first-round score of 83 to tie Powers with the top second-round score of 76. She carded 12 par scores Saturday and posted a birdie on hole No. 12.

Sophomore Maddie MacClurg sits in 67th place overall as an individual with a 22-over-par 164 (82-82). Senior Andrea Rangel came back from a tough first round to card a 6-over-par 77 for a two-day score of 25-over par 167 (90-77) while sophomore Emily Kurey is 28-over-par 170 with back-to-back 85 scores.

The Spartans will tee off in the final round Sunday morning with a shotgun start from holes Nos. 16-18.
