Wofford finishes fifth at Seminole State Spring Break Invitational

LAKE MARY, Fla. – Led by senior Lauren Dunbar’s top-10 finish, the Wofford women’s golf team earned fifth place at the Seminole State Spring Break Invitational, contested Tuesday and Wednesday at Timacuan Country Club.

Wofford made an 18-stroke improvement between rounds one and two and completed the tournament with a 36-hole total of 68-over-par 646. It earned the Terriers a top-five finish in the 14-team field. Timacuan Country Club played as a par-72, 6,152-yard course.

Dunbar was a key contributor to Wofford’s round-two improvement. The senior carded the third-lowest round of all 77 competitors on Tuesday, posting a 2-over 74 to earn a tie for ninth at 11-over-par 155. It was Dunbar’s third top-10 of the season after winning both the Bearcat Classic and Winthrop Fall Invitational in the fall season.

Two other Terriers finished in the top 25. Nicole Chin made a six-stroke improvement with a final-round 5-over 77 to finish tied for 16th (+16). Lela Oakley improved by seven strokes in her final round with a 6-over 78 to earn 25th place (+19).

Sophomores Allyson Markiewicz (+24) and Katy Funk (+32) finished tied for 38th and 57th, respectively.

The Wofford women’s golf team hosts the Low Country Intercollegiate next Saturday and Sunday (March 21-22). The field will compete at the South Course of the Moss Creek Golf Club in Hilton Head, S.C.
