WCU's McLinden Named Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina senior Megan McLinden has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played March 2-8. McLinden went 2-2 in all matches last week as the Catamounts split a pair of matches. WCU dropped a 6-1 decision to Longwood but rebounded for a 4-3 victory over Mercer, giving the Catamounts their first Southern Conference win since 2011.

McLinden was 2-0 in singles play for WCU last week. Competing at No. 2 singles, she earned a straight-sets win over Longwood’s Anna Pelak, 6-1, 6-3. McLinden then moved up to the top singles position and posted a 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 victory over Mercer’s Xandra Foughner.

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Chattanooga’s Kayla Jones and Wofford’s Mareli Sanchez.
