Lacrosse Players of the Week Announced

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Jacksonville attacker Tom Moore and Richmond goalie Benny Pugh have been named the Southern Conference Men’s Lacrosse Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, for games of March 3-8, the league office announced on Tuesday. The selections are made by the conference office.

Moore totaled six points against No. 18 Marquette last Friday as the Dolphins were edged 12-10. The junior scored three goals on just three shots and added three assists and three ground balls.

It was the third straight game that the West Islip, N.Y. native has scored at least two goals. Moore currently leads the SoCon in assists per game (2.50) and ranks fifth in goals per game (2.25). It is the first weekly honor for Moore in the SoCon’s inaugural season of lacrosse.

Pugh turned in a shutout in the first ever conference game in SoCon history, as Richmond topped VMI 20-1 on Saturday. The sophomore recorded seven saves and added four ground balls in 42:40 played for his third win of the season.

Pugh leads the SoCon in goals-against average (6.73) and save percentage (63.1 percent) while ranking in the top five nationally in both categories. It is his third weekly defensive honor this season.
