USC Upstate gained the split by winning game two, 6-3.

The Paladins are now 12-5 on the season while the Spartans are 13-3.

Trailing 3-2 after the Spartans scored a run in the top of the eighth on a Dana Landers sacrifice fly, Furman answered with the game winning runs in the bottom of the frame. Elise Smith's single put runners at first and third, and Taylor Jenkins followed with a one-out, line drive double off the base of the center field fence, scoring Sierra Bishop for the game tying run. Abbatiello then lofted a short fly ball that retreating Spartan shortstop Dana Landers couldn't glove, and Smith raced home from third to score the game winner.

The Paladins took a 2-0 lead in the first on a Bishop two-run roundtripper to left field.

USC Upstate got on the board with a Kaityln Jaeger solo home run in the third and tied it with a Shellie Robinson clout in the sixth.

Lindsey Burt (8-2), who on Monday was named SoCon Player of the Week, went the distance to earn the victory, allowing three runs, two of which were earned, on four hits. She walked two and fanned five.

Lexi Shubert (7-2) took the loss. She gave up four runs, three earned, on nine hits, and walked two. She struck out five.

Smith and Jenkins had two hits apiece to lead the Paladins, and Bishop matched her two RBI with two runs.

Robinson had two of Upstate's four hits.

In the second game the Spartans built a 6-0 lead and held off the Paladins for a 6-3 win.

The Spartans touched up Furman starting and losing pitcher Alex Sappington (2-3) for seven hits and three runs over 4 1/3 innings and then tacked on three more against Paladin reliever Elise Smith.

Leading 4-0 Upstate's Dana Landers belted a two-run home run over the left center field fence in the sixth to make it a 6-0 game.

The Paladins scratched for a run in the sixth on a Brittany Houston RBI single and made it interesting in the seventh after Taylor Jenkins' squib single to first base resulted in a dive for the bag by Jenkins and Spartan first baseman Cheyenne Griffin, with Jenkins ultimately being ruled safe after two runs scored to make it 6-3.

Taylor Collins came to the plate as the potential tying run, but she was retired by Upstate's Amanda Storch with an infield pop fly to end the game.

Storch (4-1) earned the win after up three runs on eight hits. She walked five, with three coming in the seventh inning, and finished with nine strikeouts.

Jenkins went 3-for-4 and drove in two runs for the Paladins, and Smith had a pair of doubles in a 2-for-4 performance.

Upstate pounded out 10 hits, led by Robinson, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored, Griffin (2x4, RBI, run), and Kendall Settlemyer (2x4, RBI).
