Western Carolina 18th at UCF Challenge

ORLANDO, Fla. – Sophomore Bethany Galloway shot a 4-over-par 76 on Sunday afternoon to lead the Western Carolina women’s golf team at the 2015 UCF Challenge being contested at the par-72, 6,349-yard Eagle Creek Golf Club. WCU sits 18th overall as a team with two days of competition remaining.

For Galloway, the 4-over-par single round was her second-best carded this season, just one stroke off her career-low round from the opening round of the 2014-15 season (73, Great Smokies Intercollegiate). Her Sunday round also matched the third-best round of her WCU career. It also represents the first time in her career that she has been the single-round low-scorer for the WCU side in tournament play.

Opening on the back nine on Sunday morning, Galloway made the turn at 3-over-par after charting four bogeys and one birdie, which came on the par-5 16th. Following a fifth bogey of the day on the par-4 third, the Charlotte, N.C., native played the final six holes at even-par for the 4-over round, placing her in a seven-way tie for 66th overall.

WCU junior Mariah Hopkins and sophomore Ashley Thompson fired matching rounds of 5-over-par 77 to sit in a tie for 73rd with 36 holes to play. Hopkins countered seven bogeys with a pair of birdies on Sunday with Thompson also posting a pair of birdies against five bogeys and a double-bogey.

Rounding out the Catamount scoring five were sophomore Olivia Landino in a tie for 83rd (79) and junior Kim Mitchell in 94th (81).

Again paired with golfers from South Florida and Rollins College, WCU's scoring five opens play on the 10th tee beginning at 8:39 a.m. with the final Catamount teeing off at approximately 9:15 a.m. Live scoring of the 2015 UCF Challenge is available online through BirdieFire.com.
