BRISTOL, Tenn. - Continuing the program's best start since 2004, the ETSU women's tennis team earned its fifth consecutive victory Sunday, defeating UT-Martin, 6-1, in non-conference action at the Bristol Racquet and Fitness Club in Bristol, Tenn. For the fourth straight match, the Buccaneers (5-0) captured the doubles point to take an early 1-0 advantage.
Ana Gerbasiand Lyn Yee Choo took the No. 1 Doubles point, defeating Hitomi Naito and Burcu Tari, 6-2. Meanwhile, freshmen Ioanna Markesini and Melissa Esguerra earned a 6-3 win at No. 3.
Jessica Brumitand Jayde Viccars each earned their singles points in straights sets, while Reginka Nychytailova fought back to win her match in the third set.
‘‘It was not the best day for me, but I wanted to give my team the point so I fought and I found a way to win’’ Nychytailova said.
Nychytailova, Choo, and Markesini each improved their spring singles records to 5-0.
‘‘It was a solid performance," ETSU coach Travis Sandlant said. "UTM is a good team. To win convincingly was great."
The Bucs will hit the road next weekend, heading to Rock Hill, S.C., to play SEC opponent Mississippi State, Saturday, Feb. 14 and No. 67 Winthrop, Sunday, Feb. 15.
"We are looking forward to the challenge next week against an SEC team and a ranked opponent," Sandlant said.
