SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference has announced a partnership with a national campaign to end sexual assaults on college campuses. “It’s On Us” is a project to raise awareness and reframe the way people view sexual assault on college campuses and around the world.

“The Southern Conference is proud to support this campaign,” Commissioner John Iamarino said. “We hope our efforts will help raise awareness and lead more men and women on college campuses to intervene and reduce sexual assaults.”

It’s On Us is a project of Generation Progress, itself a project of Center for American Progress. The It’s On Us campaign urges people to pledge:

- To recognize that non-consensual sex is sexual assault.

- To identify situations in which sexual assault may occur.

- To intervene in situations where consent has not or cannot be given.

- To create an environment in which sexual assault is unacceptable and survivors are supported.

One in five women and one in 16 men is sexually assaulted in college. Only 13 percent of rape survivors report the assault, and eight in 10 victims knew their attackers.
