Western Carolina's Campbell Named Academic All-District

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina women’s basketball senior guard/forward Makensey Campbell was named to the Capital One Academic All-District III First Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Campbell is the lone representative from the Southern Conference for this prestigious selection. She is among some quality company as others in District III honored include: Cierra Burdick (Tennessee), Sam Coffer (Elon), Ashley Ringer (Liberty) and Elizabeth Williams (Duke).

This is the first Academic First Team All-District III honor for Western Carolina women’s basketball since former WCU stand-out Kristen Feemster was honored in 2010.

Campbell, from Kingsport, Tenn., boasts a 3.95 GPA in Environmental Science/Biology. She has played in all 22 games this season and started 12. She scored a season-best 14 points twice this season in wins over UNC Asheville and FIU. Averaging 5.0 points per game, Campbell is shooting 36.4 percent from the field and leads the team in three-point percentage with 36.1 percent. She also ranks fourth in the Western Carolina women’s basketball career record book for three-pointers with 135.

First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
