SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Appalachian State redshirt freshman Nick Kee has been named the Southern Conference wrestler of the week for all competition from Jan. 27 to Feb. 3. The selection is made by the league office.Kee, who wrestles in the 165-pound class, picked up a pair of wins over wrestlers ranked in the NCAA coaches’ panel rankings to help the Mountaineers to a 1-1 week.The Laurinburg, N.C., native earned a 6-5 decision over Gardner-Webb’s Austin Trott on Friday as App took the 27-10 league win to improve to 4-0 in SoCon action. Trott entered the match at No. 28 in the coaches’ panel rankings.The following day, Kee topped Duke’s Brian Dorsey by a 13-6 decision to run his personal dual-match winning streak to six bouts. Dorsey is No. 32 in the coaches’ panel rankings. Kee’s win put the Mountaineers up 17-9 in the match, but Duke rallied with two pins and a decision in the last three bouts to take the 24-17 team victory.The Mountaineers (7-7, 4-0 SoCon) returns to action Sunday, Feb. 8, when they host fellow SoCon undefeated Chattanooga (10-5, 5-0 SoCon) at 2 p.m. in a battle for first place in the conference standings.
