SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Citadel’s Jackie Thompson has been named the Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week while VMI’s Renee Reives was picked as the Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week. VMI’s Julian Jackson has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week and teammate Jordan White has named the Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week. The selections are made by the league’s track and field coaches.
Thompson recorded a 3,000-meter time of 10:36.49 to finish fourth at the Kent Taylor Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C. The junior from the Marietta, Ga. set the school record for the 3,000-meter in her first ever indoor competition in the event.
Reives finished second in the shot put with a throw of 13.66m at the UCS Invitational last weekend. The mark ranks fifth in the SoCon heading in to action this weekend.
Jackson finished in the top 10 in two track events at the UCS Invitational last weekend. The senior finished fourth in the 400-meter event with a converted time of 49.59, which ranks seventh on the SoCon list this season. He also placed sixth in the 200-meter run with a converted time of 22.25, good for sixth best in the SoCon this year.
White placed second in a pair of field events at the UCS Invitational last weekend. The junior recorded a mark of 15.60m in the shot put and a 16.37m mark in the weight throw to finish runner-up in both events.
