SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Richmond midfielder Mitch Goldberg and High Point defender Pat Farrell have been named the Southern Conference Men’s Lacrosse Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, for games of Feb. 21-22, the league office announced on Tuesday. The selections are made by the conference office.

Goldberg scored five goals on eight shots with six shots on goals, as the Spiders were edged by No. 17 Marquette, 11-10, in overtime on Saturday. It was Goldberg’s second straight game with five goals, which is currently the single-game school record.

The sophomore from Damascus, Md. has scored a goal in all three games this season and ranks second in the SoCon in goals per game at 3.67. It is Goldberg’s first weekly honor of the year.

Farrell keyed the High Point defense on Saturday with a school-record eight caused turnovers and two grounds balls in a 13-5 win over Sacred Heart. The eight caused turnovers doubled the previous record and is currently the highest single-game total in the SoCon this season.

Farrell, a senior from Jamison, Pa., helped the Panthers allowed its fewest goals (5) in a single game in the program’s three-year history. The seventh round selection in the 2015 Major League Lacrosse Draft earns his first weekly honor of the season.
