SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford’s Carita Moolman has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played Feb. 16-22. The junior was 3-0 in all matches last week as the Bulldogs split a pair of matches. Samford began the week dropping a 4-1 decision to No. 71 Mississippi State before claiming a 6-1 victory over Lamar.
Moolman won both of her singles matches last week, as she topped Mississippi State’s Louise Ronaldson, 6-3, 7-5 at the No. 4 position. Against Lamar’s Carolina Maso, Moolman posted a second straight-sets victory on the week (6-2, 6-3).
Competing at the top doubles spot, the Samford duo of Moolman and teammate Stephane N’tcha, edged Maso and Katya Lapayeva of Lamar, 8-7, to move to 5-1 this spring.
Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Chattanooga’s Kelsey Coots and Wofford’s Lauren Reid.
