SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Freshman Jack Thomas would clinch a much needed Terriers win with a singles victory at the No. 6 spot, ending a four-game skid as the Wofford College men’s tennis team took down the visiting NJIT Highlanders, 5-2, at the Westside Club on Friday evening.

Thomas joined senior Rob Galloway as one of two Terriers to win in both singles and doubles action in the night’s matchups. For Thomas, the Charlottesville, Virginia native paired up with Parks Thompson in No. 3 doubles, earning a tightly contested 7-5 win over Richard Rangga and Luka Kaic. Thomas later dispatched Carl Jedlinski, 7-6, 6-3, to lock up the Terriers’ fourth team point.

Galloway played alongside sophomore Haris Poric, as the two defeated Markus Schultz and Arnaud Holl, 6-4, in No. 1 doubles. Following the matchup, Galloway took the first singles point for Wofford (4-5) with ease, putting away Audres Alban 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1.

NJIT (4-2) took the No. 2 doubles spot, as Alban and Jan Cimrman defeated senior Walker Heffron and junior David Sklar, 6-3, but the Terriers still claimed the team point to jump to an early 1-0 advantage.

Heffron would bounce back in singles action, finishing after Galloway’s win. The senior righty played at No. 3 with a 7-6, 6-4 win over Cimrman to put the Terriers out to a 3-0 advantage.

NJIT made things interesting. Holl gave Poric his first singles loss of the season, in an ultra-competitive 7-6, 7-6 finish at No. 2, before Rangga dropped Thompson, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 to bring the match within one team point.

Thomas sealed the deal with the straight set victory over Jedlinski.

Freshman Parks Schoen would be the last to finish, out lasting Kaic in three sets, 5-7, 6-4, 10-6 for his fourth victory of the season.

Wofford takes back to the courts on Wednesday, back at Reeves Tennis Center for a showdown with UNC Charlotte. The match begins at 2:30 p.m.
