SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga wrestler Jared Johnson has been named the General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday.

Johnson defeated No. 11 Ross Larson of Oklahoma to cap a huge comeback in the Mocs 19-16 win over Oklahoma. UTC trailed 16-9 with three matches before storming back for the upset victory.

The native of Jefferson City, Miss. jumped out to a 7-0 lead before Larson came all the way back. Johnson then trailed 9-8 in the third period but scored a takedown to take an 11-9 advantage and would claim the match on riding time.

The chemical engineering major boasts a career 3.70 grade point average. With the win, Johnson improved to 26-6 overall and has now won 10-straight matches.
