Men's Lacrosse Players of the Week Announced

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman midfielder Kenny Meinsen and Richmond goalie Benny Pugh have been named the Southern Conference Men’s Lacrosse Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, for games of Feb. 14-15, the league office announced on Tuesday. The selections are made by the conference office.

Meinsen scored six goals and added one assist for the Paladins against No. 16 Lehigh on Saturday. The senior took 15 shots in the game with 10 shots on goal and registered a pair of man-up goals in the loss.

Meinsen’s six goals is a Furman single-game record for the second-year program. It was the fourth career hat trick for the Huntington, N.Y. native and his first of 2015. He claims the second weekly offensive honor in the SoCon’s inaugural season.

Pugh made 11 saves while allowing six goals, as Richmond improved to 2-0 with a 15-7 win over Rutgers on Saturday. The sophomore earned his second straight decision, playing over 54 minutes in the win. The Spiders have allowed 12 goals over two games this season, the lowest two-game total in the program’s 19-game history, both with Pugh in the goal.

Pugh, a native of Powhatan, Va., ranks in the top three in the SoCon in goals against average (5.79), save percentage (.703) and saves per game (13.00). He wins the defensive weekly honor for the second straight week.
