SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford’s Stephanie N’tcha has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played Feb. 9-15. The senior went 3-0 in all competition last week as the Bulldogs topped Jacksonville State (7-0) before falling to Auburn (4-0).
N’tcha earned a straight-sets (6-2, 6-0) win over Jacksonville State’s Olivia Nguyen at the top singles position. Paired with Carita Moolman, the Samford doubles tandem posted a 6-1 win over Genevie Ulanday and Sadey St. Amant at the top doubles position.
Despite falling to Auburn, Samford’s Moolman and N’tcha knocked off the seventh-ranked doubles team in the nation as they handed Auburn’s Emily Flickinger and Pleun Burgmans a 6-2 defeat. Flickinger and Burgmans advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA tournament last spring and earned All-America honors in 2014.
Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Furman’s Alex Moreno-Kaste and Chattanooga’s Kayla Jones.
