SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU second baseman Trey York and Western Carolina right-hander B.J. Nobles have been named the Southern Conference player and pitcher of the week, respectively, for all games Feb. 13-15. The selections are made by the league office.

ETSU’s York hit .714 with three home runs, a 2.000 slugging percentage and a .714 on-base percentage, all league bests, as the Bucs opened the season with a pair of wins over Eastern Kentucky. He also scored five runs and drove in six.

The junior from Knoxville, Tenn., who only had one career home run in 238 career at-bats entering the season, opened the season by going 2-for-3 with a homer, two RBIs and two runs scored as ETSU downed Eastern Kentucky 7-3 on Friday. He followed that up with a career-high-tying three hits the following day, going 3-for-4 with two home runs, four RBIs and three runs scored in as 12-2 win over the Colonels. Game three of the series was canceled.

The Bucs return to action Friday at USC Upstate to kick off their three-day stay at the Upstate Classic in Spartanburg, S.C.

Also nominated: Drew Ellis (The Citadel), Jordan Simpson (Furman), Trey Truitt (Mercer), Richard Greene (Samford), Ray Lopez (VMI), Bradley Strong (Western Carolina) and Matt Ramsay (Wofford.

Western Carolina’s Nobles threw a career-long six innings of scoreless relief in picking up a win over Big Ten foe Purdue on Saturday, scattering three hits and striking out 11 without walking a batter. The 11 Ks were a career high for the sophomore from Raleigh, N.C., who entered the game with a run in, a runner on second and no one out and struck out the next three batters to end the Boilermakers’ threat.

Nobles would also strike out the first batter of the fifth inning to run his streak to four straight batters and struck out the side in order in the eighth inning.

Western Carolina hosts UNC Asheville on Wednesday at 4 p.m. in a game that will air live on the SoCon Digital Network.
