Second Round of Wrestling Coaches Rankings Released

INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA the second of four coaches’ panel rankings for the 2014-15 wrestling season Friday. The final rankings will be one of the tools used as part of the selection process to determine the qualifiers for the 2015 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships.

Wrestlers in each weight class will be measured by winning percentage, rating percentage index (RPI) and coaches’ rankings to earn spots for their respective qualifying tournaments for the 2015 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. The coaches’ rankings are compiled by a vote of coaches representing each qualifying tournament. For ranking purposes, coaches may only consider a wrestler that has been designated as a starter at a respective weight class. In order to be eligible for the rankings, wrestlers must have participated in at least five matches against Division I opponents in the weight class and have wrestled within the last 30 days.

The Southern Conference is represented by 13 wrestlers in the coaches’ panel rankings, with Appalachian State’s Nick Kee jumping in at No. 30 at 165 pounds. Among those who were already ranked, The Citadel’s Matt Frisch is the biggest mover with his four-spot leap at 149.

The SoCon’r ranked wrestlers are: Chattanooga’s Sean Boyle (No. 9, up two spots) and Appalachian State’s Dominic Parisi (23, down one spot) at 125 pounds; Chattanooga’s Nick Soto (14, +2) at 133; Gardner-Webb’s Ryan Mosley (24, +2), The Citadel’s Matt Frisch (25, +4) and Chattanooga’s Shawn Greevy (27, no change) and at 149; The Citadel’s Aaron Walker (15, no change) at 157; Gardner-Webb’s Austin Trott (28, no change) and Appalachian State’s Nick Kee (30, new to rankings) at 165; Chattanooga’s Sean Mappes (33, no change) at 174; Chattanooga’s Scottie Boykin (32, no change) at 197; and Appalachian State’s Denzel Dejournette (18, -1) and Chattanooga’s Jared Johnson (24, -1) at heavyweight.

The 2015 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships will take place March 19-21 at Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Mo.
