ATLANTA, Ga. – Georgia State blanked 67th-ranked Furman, 7-0, Friday at the Atlanta Athletic Club in Atlanta, Ga.
The Panthers (5-3) were victorious in two out of three doubles matches to claim the opening point. Niri Rasolomalala and Kristin Rehse topped freshman Harper Caswell and sophomore Blair Martin, 6-2, at flight two, and Masa Grgan and Marica Tere-Apisah recorded a 6-3 win versus freshman Joan van Lochem and sophomore Karlee Bryde in the number three contest. The top-flighted match-up was unfinished, with Georgia State’s Tarani Kamoe and Linn Timmermann, who are ranked 33rd nationally, leading sophomore Ansley Speaks and senior Alex Moreno-Kaste, 4-1.
Grgan bested Speaks, 6-4, 6-0 in the number one singles match, then Rehse defeated Bryde, 6-4, 6-3, at flight four to push the Panther advantage to 3-0. Timmermann came from behind to clinch the win for Georgia State with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 victory over Martin at flight three. In the number two singles match-up, Rasolomalala scored a 5-7, 7-6, 1-0 win over Moreno-Kaste, before Tere-Apisah held on to defeat van Lochem, 7-6, 6-1, at flight six. In the evening’s final match, Chaimaa Roudami took a close 7-6, 7-6 match versus Caswell at flight five to complete the sweep.
The Paladins (1-5) face Miami (OH) in Atlanta at noon on Saturday.
