SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer softball catcher Natalie Shiver has been named the General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday.

Shiver hit .538 with five extra base hits, including two home runs, on the opening weekend of the 2015 season as Mercer went 4-1 and claimed the Mercer Invitational Championship on Sunday. Overall, the junior totaled seven hits with six runs and seven RBIs, while drawing six walks and striking out just once.

The native of Leesburg, Ga. recorded her best performance of the weekend on Friday, going 2-for-4 with a triple, a homer, two runs and an RBI. She was named the SoCon Player of the Week for her strong performances and also landed a spot on the Mercer Invitational All-Tournament team.

Shiver has a 3.979 grade point average as a double major in sports business and finance.
