SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Appalachian State redshirt sophomore Nick Kee has been named the Southern Conference wrestler of the week for all competition from Nov. 25 to Dec. 8. The selection is made by the league office.

Kee went 2-0 at 174 pounds during that span, besting opponents from No. 18 North Carolina and No. 7 NC State in a pair of team losses.

Against the Tar Heels on Nov. 29, Kee picked up a 5-3 decision over John Michael Staudenmayer. The Lauringburg, N.C., native followed that up with a 12-3 major decision over the Wolfpack’s Lee Davis on Dec. 4 that tied the match with the top-10 squad at 14 heading into the final two bouts.

The weekly award is the second of Kee’s career. He also took the honor on Feb. 4 of last season.

Appalachian State (3-2, 1-0 SoCon) returns to action on Tuesday, Dec. 15, when the Mountaineers host Duke at 6:30 p.m.

Also nominated: Aaron Walker (The Citadel), Nate Higgins (SIUE) and Shabaka Johns (VMI).
