SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer sophomore Sydni Means has been named General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for competition held Dec. 2-8, the league office announced Wednesday.
Means, a guard for the Bears’ women’s basketball team, notched a career-high 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting in a 57-44 road loss to SEC foe Georgia on Dec. 2, adding four assists, two rebounds and two steals. She followed up with another 15-point outing – including nine fourth-quarter points – in a 72-61 win at Kennesaw State on Saturday. Means tacked on five steals, three assists and two rebounds in the win over the Owls to help the Bears improve to 5-3 on the season. The two performances earned her SoCon women’s basketball player of the week honors for Dec. 1-7.
The Stone Mountain, Ga, native is currently tied for first in the SoCon in steals (20) and steals per game (2.50). She checks in second in the league in assist-turnover ratio (2.28) and assists per game (5.1).
Means boasts a 3.65 grade point average and is majoring in sports business.
