The Citadel’s Walker wraps stay at Cliff Keen Invite

LAS VEGAS – The Citadel wrestling team completed action at the Cliff Keen Invitational on Saturday after two full days of competition.

Aaron Walker (8-3) was the only Bulldog to compete on Saturday after earning four straight wins on Friday to put himself into the consolation round of eight. The junior, who was seeded third at 157 pounds, continued his winning ways on Saturday with a win over Justin Staudenmayer of Brown by a 3-1 decision, putting him into the semifinals.

Walker then received his first loss in five matches as he lost by sudden victory decision 3-1 to Dylan Cottrell of West Virginia. With the loss, Walker moved into the seventh-place match, where he faced Markus Scheidel of Columbia. As was the theme all weekend for Walker, the bout was a tight one, but Scheidel eventually came out the winner, giving Walker the eighth-place finish.

Walker competed in eight matches over the course of two days, the most of any other Bulldog at the tournament. Of those eight competitors, only one was not a Division I opponent.

The Citadel will now return to Charleston, S.C., to square off with Limestone College on Dec. 18 at 2 p.m. inside McAlister Field House.
