• The Citadel and Chattanooga advanced in the first round of the FCS Playoffs last week. The Bulldogs topped Coastal Carolina (41-38), while Chattanooga downed Fordham (50-20).
• Chattanooga travels to face Jacksonville State on Saturday, while The Citadel visits Charleston Southern. The winners of those two matchups will meet in the quarterfinals.
• SoCon teams are 12-5 against Ohio Valley Conference opponents and 2-0 against teams from the Big South in the playoffs.
• The SoCon has the most wins (103) and highest winning percentage (.617) in the postseason among all FCS conferences.
• Southern Conference teams are 46-23 in the second round of the playoffs.
• Seven of the eight Southern Conference programs have appeared in the FCS playoffs.
• The Citadel and Chattanooga finished league play with identical 6-1 records. Chattanooga earned the SoCon’s bid to the FCS Playoffs by virtue of its win over the Bulldogs on Nov. 14.
• Home teams were 13-15 in conference play this season and are 49-40 since the start of 2013.
• Thirteen of the 28 league games this season were decided by one possession. Nine of the 28 league games were decided by one possession last year and 16 of the SoCon’s 36 league games were decided by one possession in 2013.
• A Southern Conference team has ranked either first or second nationally in rushing in 13 of the last 14 seasons. The Citadel ranks second in the nation with 359.3 yards per game on the ground.
