Furman’s DeVita earns first-team all-region honors
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Furman women’s soccer standout and Simpsonville, S.C., native Stephanie DeVita has been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Southeast Region First Team, it was announced on Friday.
The Southern Conference’s all-time leading scorer with 68 career goals, DeVita netted a league-best 18 goals this season to lead the Paladins to their second SoCon tournament title and NCAA tournament berth in the past three years. The senior scored all six goals for the Paladins over three league tournament matches, including the tournament-clinching goal in the 105th minute to hand her team a 1-0 victory over Mercer in the finals at Stone Stadium on Nov. 8. In the SoCon semifinals, DeVita erased a 1-0 deficit versus UNCG with a goal in the final eight minutes and chipped a shot over the goalkeeper and off the underside of the cross bar to win the match with just five seconds left in regulation.
One of only three players in SoCon history to become a four-time all-league choice, DeVita is the first player in Furman history to earn first team NSCAA All-Region honors in back-to-back seasons. She garnered SoCon Player of the Year honors in 2012 and 2014 and was named the SoCon tournament’s Most Outstanding Player in 2013 and 2015.
DeVita was the only player outside of the Atlantic Coast Conference to earn first-team honors and the only SoCon player to make the first or second team this season.
