SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG senior Lucy Mason has been named General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for competition held Nov. 25-Dec. 1, the league office announced Wednesday.
A guard on the Spartans’ women’s basketball team, Mason totaled 24 points, five rebounds and four steals in an 81-60 win over Longwood on Saturday before tallying 20 points, eight rebounds and three assists in a loss to USC Upstate on Monday. The Stone Mountain, Ga., product has scored 20 or more points in all seven of UNCG’s games this season and has posted the game high in points in six of those contests.
Mason is tops in the SoCon in points per game (25.7), steals (17) and steals per game (2.4). With her 20-point effort at USC Upstate on Monday, she moved into third in school history with 1,427 career points, passing former Spartan Brianne Dodgen (1998-02).
Mason holds a 3.84 grade point average and is majoring in African-American Studies and economics. As a junior, she earned the SoCon Commissioner’s Medal and was named to the SoCon Honor Roll.
