Lissek, Davis earn Scholar All-Region honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) named it Scholar All-Region teams Wednesday morning, and Furman senior goalkeeper Sven Lissek and Wofford senior defender Connor Davis were selected to the Scholar All-South Region second team.

To be nominated for the Scholar All-Region team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) throughout his or her career, start more than 50 percent of all games and be a significant contributor to the team, and be at least a junior in academic standing at his respective institution.

Lissek posted a 0.70 goals against average and seven shutouts while helping to lead Furman to a second straight Southern Conference title and NCAA tournament appearance this past season. The NSCAA All-South Region choice notched shutouts of Mercer and ETSU during the SoCon tournament to garner most outstanding player honors and stopped three shots during a penalty-kick shootout versus South Carolina in the opening round of the NCAA tournament.

The Sewau, Germany, native finished second in SoCon history with 28 career shutouts and guided Furman to three consecutive draws in NCAA tournament play, recording penalty-kick saves in each of the three contests.

Lissek was recently invited to the adidas MLS Players Combine this coming January in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

A Roswell, Ga., native, Davis was a key fixture on the backline for the Terriers this season, starting in all 17 games he played. Two of his three goals this season were game-winners, and all three of his goals were headers from corner-kick opportunities.

Davis started all 72 matches he played in his career and he finished his Terrier career this fall having totaled 49 career points (18 goals and 13 assists), tied for the second-most for a player in Wofford's Division I era. He will graduate in the spring with a degree in finance.

The recognition adds to his honors previously earned this season. Davis last week made the NSCAA All-South Region second team as well as being recognized as a first-team All-SoCon and CoSIDA Academic All-District selection earlier this season.

The Terriers finished the 2015 season at 9-7-2 (4-5-1 SoCon) after losing in the first round of the SoCon tournament to ETSU on Nov. 7.
