SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford senior Krista Stricklin has been named General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for competition held Dec. 9-15, the league office announced Wednesday.
Stricklin, a guard for the Bulldogs’ women’s basketball team, averaged 13.0 points and 6.5 rebounds in two games last week. She recorded a double-double in Samford’s 65-56 overtime loss to Indiana on Friday, posting 10 points and a team-high 10 rebounds in 36 minutes on the floor. Stricklin followed that effort with 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting in a 66-55 loss at Georgia Tech on Sunday. She was 3-of-4 from 3-point range and added three rebounds, an assist and a steal against the Yellow Jackets. The two performances earned her women’s basketball player of the week honors on Tuesday.
The Hayden, Ala., product is one of 10 SoCon players to have recorded at least one double-double this season. Her mark of 37.8 percent from behind the arc ranks fifth in the league.
Stricklin currently holds a 3.81 grade point average as a fitness and health promotion major.
Other nominees: Kelsey Ellis (Furman) and Eric Robertson (Chattanooga).
