GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Southern Conference champion Furman Paladins will travel to Historic Riggs Field to face sixth-ranked Clemson in the opening round of the NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championship on Saturday, Nov. 14, at 7 p.m., it was announced on Monday afternoon by the NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Committee.

“We’re thrilled for the opportunity, not only to continue our season, but to play a quality opponent nearby that will allow so many of our fans to come support us,” said Furman coach Andrew Burr, following the announcement of the field of 64. “Clemson is a place that we’ve played many times before, so there is some familiarity there. Coach Eddie Radwanski does a great job with their program, and they’ll present a big test for us in the first round.”

Furman punched its ticket to its seventh NCAA tournament by downing Mercer 1-0 in double overtime on Sunday afternoon at Stone Soccer Stadium in the SoCon Women’s Soccer Championship title match. The victory gave Furman its sixth league tournament title and second in the past three seasons. The Paladins, 17-4-1 on the year, enter the NCAA tournament riding a nine-match winning streak and 11-match unbeaten streak.

The last NCAA trip for the Paladins came in 2013, when Burr’s team dropped a 5-0 decision in the opening round of the tournament at nationally ranked South Carolina after claiming both the SoCon regular season and tournament crowns. Furman is 0-6 all-time in NCAA tournament play.

Clemson, 13-4-1, finished tied for second in the Atlantic Coast Conference and lost to top-ranked Virginia, 5-0, in the ACC Tournament semifinals.
