SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference named its football players of the week Monday for all games played
Nov. 7. Western Carolina’s Troy Mitchell was named the Offensive Player of the Week. The Citadel’s Quinlan Washington was named the league’s Defensive Player of the Week, while Samford’s Anthony Pistelli was named the league’s Special Teams Player of the Week. The players of the week are selected by the league office.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Troy Mitchell, Western Carolina, Sr., QB, Houston, Texas
Senior quarterback Troy Mitchell turned in a strong all-around performance in his final home game as Western Carolina topped Furman, 48-10 on Saturday. Mitchell accounted for 360 yards of total offense and five touchdowns in the win. The Houston, Texas, native rushed 11 times for 55 yards and two touchdowns. He completed 25-of-37 pass attempts for 305 yards and three scores. It was the first time in his career he rushed for multiple touchdowns and threw multiple touchdowns in the same game. Mitchell moved into fifth place on the league’s career total offense list with 8,891 yards.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Quinlan Washington, The Citadel, Fr., LB, Gainesville, Fla.
Quinlan Washington highlighted a strong defensive performance from The Citadel as the Bulldogs downed VMI, 35-14 on Saturday. Washington recorded two interceptions, forced a fumble, recorded a sack and tallied four tackles in the win. The Gainesville, Ga., native took his first career interception 72 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter to give The Citadel a 14-0 advantage. He added his second interception later in the second quarter. In the third quarter, he recorded a sack and forced fumble that was recovered by the Bulldogs to set up a field goal.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Anthony Pistelli, Samford, Sr., PK, Thomasville, Ga.
Samford’s Anthony Pistelli set a Samford school record with five made field goals and accounted for 19 of the Bulldogs’ 43 points in a 43-0 shutout win over Clark Atlanta on Saturday afternoon. Pistelli connected on field goals of 42, 40, 28, 25 and 20 yards. The senior also converted all four PAT attempts and averaged 61.3 yards on seven kickoffs with two touchbacks. Pistelli’s 19 points were a school record for a kicker.
