SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman senior Jo Wilks has been named General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for competition that was held Oct. 28-Nov. 3, the league office announced Wednesday.
Wilks, a setter on the Paladins’ volleyball team, posted 41 assists in a sweep of ETSU on Oct. 28 before dishing out 54 assists in a four-set win over Western Carolina on Saturday. Her performance against the Catamounts was historic, as she climbed to the top of Furman’s career assists list. The Union Grove, Wis., native leads the SoCon and ranks 11th nationally in assists per set with an average of 11.47, and she ranks second in the NCAA in career assists among active players with 4,893.
The health science major has also excelled in the classroom. Wilks boasts a 3.756 grade point average and has been named to the SoCon Academic Honor Roll three times. In addition, she earned all-academic honors in 2013 and 2014.
