UNCG?s Francois named SoCon Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG forward Jacques Francois has been named the Southern Conference men’s soccer player of the week for all competition Oct. 26 to Nov. 1. The selection is made by the league office and is the final one of the 2015 season.

Francois netted three goals and dished out three assists for a nine-point week as the Spartans went 1-0-1.

In an 11-0 romp over VMI on Tuesday, Oct. 27, Francois notched a hat trick and two assists as UNCG picked up the biggest win in its Division I era and clinched a first-round bye in the upcoming Southern Conference Men’s Soccer Championship.

At ETSU on Saturday, the senior from Port Au Prince, Haiti, assisted on the Spartans’ equalizing goal in the 63rd minute of an eventual 1-1 draw. The tie, coupled with Furman’s 1-1 stalemate with Mercer the same day, clinched UNCG’s eighth regular-season SoCon crown and first since 2011.

The weekly award is the first of Francois’ career. He becomes the third different Spartan to earn the honor this season, joining teammates Leeroy Maguraushes (Sept. 1 and Oct. 27) and Damieon Thomas (Sept. 15).

Top-seeded UNCG (10-5-4, 6-1-3 SoCon) awaits either No. 4 seed ETSU or No. 5 seed Wofford in the semifinals of the SoCon tournament for a Nov. 13 match at the Bucs’ Summers-Taylor Stadium. That match is set for a 3:30 p.m. start and will air live on the SoCon Digital Network.

Also nominated: Noah Teplitzky (Furman), Max Poore (Mercer) and Will Puckett (Wofford).
