CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Appalachian State took on No. 18 ranked North Carolina on Sunday afternoon. The Mountaineers (3-1, 1-0 SoCon) won four weight classes on the day but fell, 24-12, to UNC.

The Mountaineers jumped out to a 6-0 lead after wins at 125 pounds and 133 pounds. Vito Pasone got the Apps going with a 9-3 decision over Tyrone Clump. Jacob Grigg topped A.C. Headlee, 10-9, after a late, third-round reversal broke an 8-8 tie.

The Tar Heels (4-1) would level the team score at 6 each in the 141-pound match when No. 7 Evan Henderson pinned Michael Longo 2:07 into the bout. UNC's Christian Barber used a takedown in the final 10 seconds to edge Matt Zovistoski at 149 pounds.

With Carolina leading 9-6, the 157-pound match came down to the wire as David Peters-Logue and Robert Henderson were tied 5-5 going into the third round. Henderson used a four-point near fall to seal a decision win over Peters-Logue.

In the 165-pound match, Forrest Przybysz battled with No. 5 Ethan Ramos until the very end. The match was tied at 5 apiece going into the third round. Ramos' third-round takedown allowed him to hang on for an 8-6 decision win.

Nick Kee brought Appalachian back within six points with his 5-3 decision win over John Michael Staudenmayer that made the score 15-9.

UNC pulled away from App State after a major decision over Taylor Jackson at 184 pounds and a technical fall over Tyler Radford at 197 pounds gave the Tar Heels a 24-9 advantage.

No. 12 Denzel Dejournette improved to 12-0 on the season with his 9-2 win over Cory Daniel in the final match of the day.

The Mountaineers are back in action this Friday at home when they welcome NC State to Varsity Gym. The match is set for 6:30 p.m.
