GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG men’s soccer senior midfielder Noah DeAngelo has been named to the men’s soccer Academic All-America First Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Tuesday. DeAngelo becomes just the 24th UNCG student-athlete and only the third men’s soccer student-athlete to earn the national honor all-time.

DeAngelo joins the likes of Siggi Eyjoflsson (1997, 1998) and Mark Fulk (1990) as the only men’s soccer student-athletes to earn the prestigious award. He is just the second men’s soccer student-athlete to earn first-team Academic All-America honors, joining Eyjoflsson, who did so in 1998. Additionally, he is the first UNCG student-athlete in any sport to earn the accolade since Paul Chelimo picked up third-team honors in 2013 and the first Spartan to earn first-team honors since Jennifer Moran (softball) in 2003.

DeAngelo, a team captain, owns a perfect 4.0 GPA in biology for the Spartans as a senior and will graduate in December. He will look to continue his education next year in medical school. DeAngelo spent this past summer volunteering for the Elon Fire and Rescue Department. He was inducted into Phi Betta Kappa and the UNCG Golden Chain Honor Society this fall.

Of the 33 members of the 2015 CoSIDA Academic All-America Division I men’s soccer teams, 17 have at least a 3.90 GPA, with seven student-athletes sporting a perfect 4.0. The 11 members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.89.

DeAngelo is a two-time Academic All-District selection and a four-time Academic All-Southern Conference honoree. He played in 72 career games, scoring four goals and dishing out six assists for 14 career points. His senior season, he guided the Spartans to the SoCon regular-season championship with two goals and two assists. His play helped the Spartans post an 11-5-5 overall record and a 6-1-3 mark in league play.
