GREENVILLE, S.C. – Furman goalkeeper Sven Lissek has been named National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) College Player of the Week and has earned a spot on the Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week after posting a pair of shutouts to lead Furman to its 13th Southern Conference tournament title this past weekend, it was announced on Tuesday.

Lissek, who garnered SoCon tournament Most Outstanding Player honors, stopped a penalty shot versus Mercer on Friday night to send Furman through to the league finals after a 0-0 draw with the Bears before turning away six shots on Sunday in a 1-0 blanking of host ETSU in the SoCon Men’s Soccer Championship title match.

Sunday’s victory, which secured Furman (8-5-5) an automatic bid to its second straight NCAA tournament, marked the 28th career shutout for Lissek and moved him into sole possession of second place on the SoCon’s career shutouts ledger.  The senior from Sewau, Germany, has recorded five consecutive clean sheets in SoCon postseason play to lead Furman to back-to-back league titles.

Furman will travel to instate rival and 21st-ranked South Carolina for the opening round of the NCAA tournament on Thursday with the winner slated to face No. 15 seed UC Santa Barbara in Santa Barbara, Calif., on Sunday, Nov. 22.
