WCU's Brown Named Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina’s Mike Brown has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for all games played Nov. 13-16. Brown averaged 26.0 points and shot 46 percent from the field as the Catamounts fell at Cincinnati (97-72) before topping UNC Asheville (91-80).

The Charlotte, N.C., native scored a game-high 23 points at Cincinnati and added four assists, four rebounds, two blocked shots and two steals in 35 minutes against the Bearcats. Brown posted career highs in points (29) and assists (seven) in just 28 minutes against UNCA. He pulled down four rebounds and added one steal.

Brown shot 46 percent (17-of-37) from the field and went 13-of-14 at the free-throw line over the two games.

The Catamounts (1-1) return to action Saturday evening when they visit High Point.

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Mercer’s Phillip Leonard, UNCG’s Clay Byrd, Samford’s Christen Cunningham, Chattanooga’s Casey Jones and Wofford’s Fletcher Magee.
